Jonathan Gray, President and COO of Blackstone, and his wife Mindy Gray announced a groundbreaking $125 million donation to Tel Aviv University (TAU) through their Gray Foundation. With Israel facing a rising shortage of qualified doctors, the donation will directly support Tel Aviv University’s plans to increase medical student enrollment by 25%. The university will use the funds to:
In honor of the donation, TAU’s medical school will be renamed the Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. This comes after the university removed the Sackler name in 2023, following public criticism due to the family’s association with the opioid epidemic in the U.S.
Jonathan Gray commented, “This is an investment in the future of Israeli healthcare and medical innovation. We hope it inspires the next generation of doctors, researchers, and healers.”
The Grays have long been active in philanthropic efforts, particularly in health and education. They previously established the Basser Center for BRCA at the University of Pennsylvania, dedicated to BRCA-related cancer research.
This latest gift reinforces their commitment to advancing medical science and supporting communities in need through strategic, large-scale giving.
