The New Zealand government has unveiled a $13.5 million funding initiative designed to supercharge the country’s tourism marketing strategy and attract more international visitors in 2025.
This investment, announced by the Minister of Tourism, reflects the government’s renewed focus on revitalizing the tourism sector, a key pillar of the nation’s economy that faced significant challenges during the global pandemic years.
The newly allocated funds will be directed to Tourism New Zealand, the country’s official marketing agency, to support international campaigns promoting New Zealand as a must-visit travel destination. The campaign will highlight the country's natural beauty, cultural experiences, and adventure tourism offerings.
Tourism Minister said in a statement:
“Tourism is vital to New Zealand’s economy and local communities. This targeted investment will help us stand out in a highly competitive global tourism market and drive long-term economic benefits for the country.”
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, tourism was one of New Zealand's largest export industries, contributing nearly $40 billion annually and supporting thousands of jobs. The government hopes this renewed investment will return the sector to pre-pandemic levels and beyond.
The new marketing campaigns are expected to roll out mid-2025, with a focus on digital advertising, influencer collaborations, international media partnerships, and showcasing New Zealand’s unique travel experiences on a global stage.
