Bollywood veteran Sunny Deol has officially confirmed that he will be playing the divine warrior Lord Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s much-anticipated film Ramayan. The confirmation came during the Rising Bharat Summit 2025, organized by News18, where Deol appeared as a special guest speaker.
While addressing the audience at the summit, Sunny Deol said: “I am working in Ramayan as Hanuman, yes that is true.”
When asked about his spiritual beliefs, he added: “Kon bhagwan mein nahi manta? Hum hai bhagwan ki wajah se. (Who doesn’t believe in God? We are here because of Him).”
The ambitious cinematic adaptation is being directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra. The project stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, and is slated to release in two parts: the first in 2026 and the second in 2027. The film promises a grand visual spectacle that blends mythology with cutting-edge filmmaking.
Sunny Deol acknowledged the challenge of portraying a legendary figure like Hanuman but expressed excitement about the role. “For actors, we love challenging things because it’s fun. We have to nail the character and listen to our director. I immerse myself into my character so that people believe in it,” he said. He also mentioned that shooting has not started yet, but assured fans that the film will be “one of the most mega productions ever made.”
Fans are eagerly awaiting this modern-day retelling of India’s greatest epic, especially with such a powerful cast. Sunny Deol’s commanding screen presence and physicality make him an apt choice for the role of the mighty Hanuman.
With Ranbir Kapoor and Sunny Deol on board, Ramayan is expected to set new benchmarks for mythological storytelling in Indian cinema.
