In a historic move aimed at fostering peace and regional cooperation, China, Japan, and South Korea officially launched the 2025–26 Cultural Exchange Year, a year-long series of events promoting music, art, and sports across East Asia.
The initiative was announced during a trilateral summit attended by government leaders from all three countries. The Cultural Exchange Year aims to promote mutual respect, deepen cultural understanding, and celebrate shared heritage among the people of China, Japan, and South Korea.
Beijing, Tokyo, and Seoul will host the grand opening concerts, followed by city-to-city performances featuring traditional music, K-pop, J-pop, and Chinese pop artists. Local cultural centers will also organize workshops and interactive events for the public.
Officials from the three countries highlighted that this initiative is not only about entertainment but also about using culture as a bridge for peaceful cooperation and reducing historical tensions in the region.
The Cultural Exchange Year is expected to boost regional tourism, encourage cross-border travel, and generate new opportunities for the creative industries in Asia, especially music, fashion, and arts.
