Boulder, Colorado — A peaceful Sunday demonstration turned into chaos when a man launched incendiary devices into a crowd gathered to show solidarity for Israeli hostages held in Gaza. The incident, which left six elderly individuals injured, is now under federal investigation as a targeted act of terrorism and a potential hate crime.
Authorities identified the suspect as 45-year-old Mohamed Soliman. Eyewitnesses say Soliman approached the gathering, shouted “Free Palestine,” and then hurled makeshift firebombs at the demonstrators. The rally was part of a national movement called “Run for Their Lives”, organized to raise awareness and support for hostages still held by Hamas.
Victims Hospitalized, One in Critical Condition
The victims, aged between 67 and 88, suffered varying degrees of burns and trauma. Emergency responders arrived within minutes, and all six were rushed to nearby hospitals. One victim remains in critical condition as of Monday morning.
The FBI has joined state and local law enforcement in the investigation. A spokesperson for the Bureau confirmed the incident is being treated as a potential case of domestic terrorism and hate-based violence.
Community and Law Enforcement Respond Swiftly
The Boulder Police Department immediately cordoned off the area and secured evidence, including remnants of incendiary devices. The city’s mayor issued a statement condemning the attack and urging unity amid rising political tensions.

Authorities have not disclosed whether Soliman has a history of political extremism or previous arrests. However, multiple federal agencies are now involved, including Homeland Security and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
