India Removes Import Duties on EV Battery and Mobile Components

Government Pushes for ‘Make in India’ Growth
The Indian government has waived import duties on 63 critical components used in the production of electric vehicle (EV) batteries and mobile phones. This move aims to promote local manufacturing and reduce dependency on imports, supporting the Make in India initiative.
Scope of Duty Exemptions
- 35 items related to lithium-ion battery packs
- 28 components used in mobile phone PCBs and chipsets
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that this will significantly reduce production costs, encourage local assembly units, and boost export potential. The announcement aligns with India’s 2030 EV adoption roadmap and targets $300 billion in electronics manufacturing output.
