In a strong response to the brutal Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, including a Nepali national, the Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor early Wednesday morning, striking nine terrorist infrastructure sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
According to the Ministry of Defence, the precision strikes were “focused and calibrated,” aimed at crippling the operational bases of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). These organizations are widely believed to be behind repeated cross-border terror attacks in India.
Targeted Locations in Pakistan and PoK
The nine key terror sites targeted by Indian forces include camps used for recruitment, training, and launching of terror operatives. These are:
- Bahawalpur: JeM headquarters, 100 km from the International Boundary.
- Muridke: LeT camp, 30 km from the border near Samba.
- Gulpur: Terror base 35 km from the LoC in the Poonch-Rajouri sector.
- Sawai: LeT training site, 30 km inside PoK near the Tangdhar sector.
- Bilal Camp: JeM launchpad, specifics withheld for strategic reasons.
- Kotli: LeT site 15 km from the LoC opposite Rajouri.
- Barnala: Base just 10 km from the LoC near Rajouri.
- Sarjal Camp: JeM training site 8 km from the IB near Samba-Kathua.
- Mehmoona Camp: HM camp, 15 km from the IB near Sialkot.
India's Measured Yet Firm Military Response
The Ministry emphasized that no Pakistani military installations were targeted, showcasing India’s intent to punish terror elements while avoiding wider conflict. A post by the Directorate of Public Relations (MoD) on X stated, “Operation Sindoor is a precise and restrained response to the barbaric Pahalgam Terror Attack… while avoiding unnecessary provocation.”

High Alert in Border Regions
Following the strikes, security forces have been placed on high alert in border areas including Jammu, Kashmir, and Punjab. Airports in several northern states were temporarily shut down as a precautionary measure amid rising tension in the region.
This latest move is being hailed as a major step in India’s ongoing war against cross-border terrorism, sending a clear message to perpetrators and their backers alike.
