In a monumental IPL 2025 clash, the Delhi Capitals finally defeated the Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, ending a 15-year losing streak in the southern stronghold. Delhi’s clinical performance with the bat and ball handed them a 25-run victory.
KL Rahul led the charge for Delhi Capitals with a masterful 77 off 51 balls, supported by a 33-run cameo from Abishek Porel. DC posted a commanding total of 183/6 after electing to bat first. Their death-over acceleration proved vital in setting a challenging target for CSK.
Despite losing early wickets, CSK's chase was kept alive by a steady innings from Vijay Shankar (69* off 54). MS Dhoni added an unbeaten 30, but the Capitals’ disciplined bowling prevented CSK from reaching the target, as they finished on 158/5.
In the day’s other encounter, Lucknow Super Giants defended 203 against Mumbai Indians, thanks largely to the exceptional performance of young spinner Digvesh Rathi. He bowled a miserly spell of 2/21, claiming the key wicket of Naman Dhir and restricting run flow during the middle overs.
After the match, LSG coach Justin Langer said, “He probably bowls in the hotel corridor, during breakfast, even in the shower. He lives and breathes bowling, and now it’s paying off.” Rathi's economy rate of 5.25 was the best in the game and proved pivotal in sealing a 12-run win.
As the IPL 2025 season intensifies, all eyes are on the Punjab Kings vs Rajasthan Royals clash and the weekend double-headers. Delhi Capitals will look to maintain their unbeaten streak, while struggling sides like CSK and SRH will aim for crucial turnarounds in the coming fixtures.
