On April 6, 2025, Gujarat Titans (GT) delivered a commanding performance to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets in Match 19 of the IPL 2025 season. The match, held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, saw Gujarat dominate with both bat and ball, climbing to second place on the points table.
GT won the toss and chose to bowl first. Their bowlers justified the decision by restricting SRH to just 152/8 in 20 overs. In reply, GT chased down the target with ease, finishing at 153/3 in 16.4 overs.
Mohammed Siraj's Bowling Masterclass: Siraj was in top form, taking 4 wickets for just 17 runs in his 4-over spell. His early breakthroughs derailed Hyderabad's top order.
Shubman Gill’s Captain’s Knock: Leading by example, Gill remained unbeaten with a composed 61 off 43 balls, anchoring the run chase effortlessly.
Washington Sundar's All-Round Contribution: Sundar provided great support in the middle order with a quick 49 off 29 balls, setting the pace for a smooth finish.
The early wickets from Siraj put SRH on the back foot immediately, leaving them at 50/3 in under 8 overs. Although Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy offered resistance with brief cameos, SRH struggled to gain momentum and posted a below-par total.
GT’s chase started a bit shaky at 16/2, but the Gill-Sundar partnership of 91 runs put the game firmly in their control. Sherfane Rutherford later added fireworks with a brisk 35 off 16 balls to seal the victory in style.
GT captain Shubman Gill praised the team’s discipline and balance. “Siraj set the tone, and we backed it up with smart batting,” he said. Meanwhile, SRH skipper Pat Cummins admitted that the team needs to regroup quickly to avoid further setbacks.
With this win, GT looks poised for a strong campaign in IPL 2025. SRH, on the other hand, remains winless after four matches and faces mounting pressure to turn things around in their upcoming fixtures.
