India marked National Technology Day, honoring the landmark anniversary of the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests—an event that positioned India firmly on the global technological map. But in 2025, the celebration is about more than the past—it's about building a sustainable, innovation-led future.
This year’s theme, “Empowering a Sustainable Tomorrow Through Innovation,” underscores the growing need for technology to play a leading role in solving global challenges like climate change, clean energy access, and digital inclusivity.
At a national ceremony held in New Delhi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh paid tribute to the contributions of Indian scientists, engineers, and innovators. He described their work as the “backbone of India’s self-reliance,” and emphasized the need to strengthen R&D in sectors such as AI, space, biotechnology, and green energy.
The government highlighted several ongoing initiatives aligning with the 2025 theme:
National Technology Day was established to commemorate Pokhran-II, a series of successful nuclear tests conducted on May 11, 1998. That bold step signified India’s determination to chart its own path in defense and scientific autonomy.
Today, the narrative has expanded. From building next-gen rockets to harnessing AI for agriculture, India’s journey reflects a broader transformation—from strategic capability to innovation for humanity.
As global leaders push toward climate action and digital transformation, India’s strategy of pairing self-reliance with sustainability positions it as a key player in the 21st-century tech race. National Technology Day 2025 serves as both a tribute and a call to action for deeper public-private collaboration, increased R&D funding, and education reform centered on innovation.
“We owe it to future generations,” Singh concluded, “to ensure technology works not just for profit—but for the planet.”
