On March 27, 2025, Nintendo held a Direct presentation revealing a lineup of new games and features for the Nintendo Switch. Highlights include the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Pokémon Legends Z-A, a sequel to Tomodachi Life, and the introduction of Virtual Game Cards.
Nintendo offered Switch owners a new look at the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4, revealing what’s next for intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran. In this installment, Samus acquires mysterious new psychic powers and dons a sleek red-and-black suit. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is slated for release in 2025, though no firm date has been announced.
The presentation provided a new look at this year’s big Pokémon game, Pokémon Legends Z-A, showcasing its day and nighttime battles. A highlight was the introduction of the Z-A Royale, a tournament where trainers can rank up through unique real-time battles featuring Mega Evolutions. The game is expected to launch in late 2025.
Miis make a grand return in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, the first new Tomodachi Life game in a decade. This island adventure promises the quirky and wacky Mii interactions fans have come to love. The game is scheduled for a 2026 release.
Eight years into the Switch’s lifecycle, Nintendo is introducing Virtual Game Cards, allowing players to share digital games more easily. These virtual cards can be lent to others and shared across both Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. This feature will be added in a system software update in April.
The beloved rhythm game series returns with Rhythm Heaven Groove. Featuring music from Japanese musician Tsunku, this new entry is set to launch in 2026.
Developers Dotemu and Tribute Games, known for their work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, are bringing Marvel heroes to a new beat-’em-up game titled Marvel Cosmic Invasion. Players can team up as characters like Nova, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Phyla-Vell, Captain America, and Storm to take down Annihilus. The game is expected to release during the holiday season.
Square Enix is giving the classic role-playing games Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest 2 the HD-2D treatment. The remakes are set to launch in 2025, though a specific release date has not been provided.
PlayStation Portable rhythm games Patapon and Patapon 2 are coming to Switch in a bundle titled Patapon 1+2 Replay. The collection is scheduled for release on July 11.
