Apple Inc. is poised to make a historic shift in its manufacturing strategy by moving up to 65% of its iPhone production to India by fall 2025, according to Dan Ives, a prominent Wall Street analyst at Wedbush Securities.
This forecast reflects a deeper push by Apple to diversify its supply chain and reduce reliance on China amid growing geopolitical tensions and production risks.
India has become increasingly central to Apple’s global operations, thanks to strong government incentives under the “Make in India” initiative and rapid expansion by manufacturing partners like Foxconn.
According to a report by the Financial Times, this strategic shift will allow Apple to manufacture the entire U.S. iPhone supply—over 60 million devices annually—from India by the end of 2025.
The decision is also influenced by U.S. political dynamics. President Donald Trump has intensified pressure on American companies to reduce their dependence on Chinese manufacturing, even urging Apple to move operations back to the United States.
However, analysts note that India offers a compelling middle ground: lower costs, a skilled workforce, and a friendly policy environment.
India stands to gain enormously from Apple’s deepening footprint. The investments align with the country's vision of becoming a global tech manufacturing powerhouse.
With India now a key manufacturing hub, other tech giants may follow Apple's lead. Experts suggest this could signal a larger regional shift in electronics manufacturing across Asia, potentially transforming global supply chain dynamics for years to come.
