Tragic Fire at Hebei Nursing Home Claims 20 Lives, Investigation Underway

A devastating fire broke out at a nursing home in Chengde, Hebei Province, on April 8, claiming the lives of 20 residents and leaving several others injured. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the blaze and detained a facility manager for questioning.
According to local reports, the fire began in the early morning hours and spread rapidly due to flammable materials used in the building’s construction. Emergency crews were dispatched immediately, but rescue efforts were hampered by poor infrastructure and outdated fire safety systems.
“We were told the alarms didn’t go off in time,” said a relative of one of the victims. “By the time staff responded, it was already too late.”
