China Conducts Military Drills Near Taiwan as Tensions Escalate
Date: 01-apr-2025

the People's Liberation Army (PLA) launched comprehensive joint military exercises around Taiwan, involving the navy, air force, and rocket units. The drills, which include the deployment of the aircraft carrier Shandong, were described by PLA officials as a “stern warning” to separatist forces in Taiwan.
These drills come in response to recent pro-independence remarks from Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te. Beijing strongly opposes any indication of Taiwanese independence and considers the island a part of its sovereign territory. Chinese military spokespersons stated that the exercises are designed to simulate a blockade and precision strikes, underlining China’s operational readiness.
Footage released by Chinese state media showed warships maneuvering off Taiwan’s eastern coast, while fighter jets conducted mock strikes. Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense reported heightened activity in its air defense zones and confirmed it is monitoring the situation closely.
