Russia Confirms Discussions with U.S. on Damaged Nord Stream Pipeline
Russia has acknowledged it is in dialogue with the United States about the potential revival of the damaged Nord Stream gas pipeline, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed on March 27, 2025.
The Nord Stream 1 pipeline was rendered inoperable by explosions in 2022, while one line of Nord Stream 2 remains intact but unused. The talks reportedly include American investors and have raised eyebrows in Europe, where governments had pivoted away from Russian energy dependency.
Critics fear the discussions could undermine EU diversification efforts and pose risks of political backlash. U.S. officials have not formally commented, and the plan’s feasibility remains uncertain amid sanctions and security concerns.
