Sudanese Army Retakes Khartoum, But City Left in Ruins

After two years under Rapid Support Forces (RSF) control, the Sudanese army has officially retaken Khartoum. While the operation marks a significant military victory, the reality on the ground paints a bleak picture.
The capital lies in ruins—hollowed out by continuous fighting, airstrikes, and urban warfare. Much of its infrastructure is destroyed, and most of the population has fled. Essential services like water, electricity, and medical care remain unavailable in many areas.

The United Nations has declared the city unsafe for its operations, stating it will not resume humanitarian activities in Khartoum until at least 2026. Efforts to stabilize the region are ongoing, but rebuilding will require international support and sustained peace.
