On March 23, 2025, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) began their IPL 2025 journey with a thrilling 4-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Powered by a composed knock from Rachin Ravindra and a dream debut by Noor Ahmad, CSK successfully chased down the target of 156 with five balls to spare.
Batting first, MI managed to post 155/9 in 20 overs. Tilak Varma top-scored with 31 runs, but the side failed to build lasting partnerships. CSK’s debutant spinner Noor Ahmad stole the spotlight, picking up 4 wickets for just 18 runs, choking the MI middle-order and earning the Player of the Match title.
In response, CSK started aggressively with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad smashing 53 off 26 balls. His early fireworks set the tone before Rachin Ravindra anchored the innings with an unbeaten 65 off 45 balls, guiding the team to a comfortable finish.
For MI, young bowler Vignesh Puthur made an impact with 3 wickets for 32 runs, including the important scalp of Gaikwad. Despite his efforts, MI's streak of losing opening matches since 2012 continued.
CSK will look to continue their momentum in the upcoming fixtures, while MI will aim to bounce back and fix their batting inconsistencies. With the tournament just getting started, fans can expect more intense contests in the coming weeks.
