In the first IPL 2025 match of the day on April 8, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) put up a dominant performance to defeat the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 27 runs at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Lucknow Super Giants: 238/3 (20 overs)
Kolkata Knight Riders: 211/7 (20 overs)
LSG’s innings was set up by Marsh and Markram, but it was Pooran’s explosive finish that lifted them to a massive total of 238. His clean hitting and late acceleration left the KKR bowlers stunned.
KKR began their chase with intent, thanks to Rahane’s quickfire fifty and Narine’s cameo. However, tight bowling spells and timely breakthroughs from LSG, especially by Shardul Thakur, turned the momentum away from KKR.
Rishabh Pant (LSG): “The boys stuck to the plan brilliantly. Pooran and Marsh gave us that extra cushion, and our bowlers finished the job.”
Ajinkya Rahane (KKR): “We started well, but couldn’t maintain momentum. The chase was gettable, but we lost steam at the wrong time.”
This win lifts LSG’s net run rate and strengthens their early momentum in the IPL 2025 season. For KKR, it’s back to the drawing board as they seek consistency in their next fixtures.
