In a thrilling encounter at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 24, 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ended their home losing streak by defeating Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 11 runs in Match 42 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. This victory not only marked RCB's first win at home this season but also propelled them to third place on the points table, while RR's playoff hopes took a significant hit with their seventh loss in nine matches.
Opting to bat first, RCB posted a formidable total of 205/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Virat Kohli led the charge with a fluent 70 off 42 balls, while Devdutt Padikkal provided solid support with a 50-run knock. Despite a late surge, RR's bowlers managed to contain the damage in the final overs, with Jofra Archer finishing with figures of 1/33.
Chasing 206, RR started aggressively, with Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring 49 and Dhruv Jurel contributing 47 runs. However, RCB's bowlers tightened the screws in the death overs. Josh Hazlewood was instrumental, delivering a match-defining penultimate over that yielded just 4 runs and 2 wickets, culminating in RR finishing at 194/9.
With this win, RCB climbed to third place in the IPL 2025 standings, joining Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals at 12 points but trailing on net run rate. Conversely, RR's defeat has virtually eliminated them from playoff contention, marking their fifth consecutive loss.
