The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) continued their comeback journey in the IPL 2025 with a dominant seven-wicket win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Match 37, held on April 20 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.
After being asked to bat first, Punjab Kings put up a fighting total of 157/6 in 20 overs. Openers struggled to find rhythm early, but Prabhsimran Singh (33) and Shashank Singh (31*) held the innings together. RCB’s bowling attack was sharp and disciplined, with Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma both picking up two wickets each.
In reply, RCB cruised to victory in just 18.5 overs, finishing at 159/3. It was Virat Kohli who stole the show with a classy unbeaten 73*, while young opener Devdutt Padikkal impressed with a confident 61. The pair stitched together a match-winning partnership of 103 runs, effectively neutralizing Punjab’s bowling efforts.
The chase never looked out of control once Kohli and Padikkal got going. Punjab’s bowlers lacked penetration in the middle overs, and their inability to break the partnership cost them dearly.
This win gives RCB crucial momentum in their mid-season campaign, while PBKS continue to struggle with inconsistency. As the playoff race intensifies, every match from here becomes a do-or-die for teams in the mid-table scramble.
