Date: 01-apr-2025 | By: Nuztrend Team
Millions of UK households are confronting sharp rises in utility costs. Average water bills have increased by 26%, adding £123 annually, while the energy price cap rose by 6.4%, translating to £111 more per year. Additionally, council tax has gone up by around 5% nationwide, with some councils implementing even steeper hikes.
Telecom providers including BT, Virgin Media, and Vodafone have also hiked broadband and mobile bills, citing inflation-linked contract terms. Meanwhile, electric vehicle (EV) owners face new road taxes, marking the end of zero-VED benefits in the UK.
Consumer advocacy groups such as Citizens Advice warn that low-income families may be disproportionately affected. They are calling on providers to offer social tariffs and greater billing transparency to protect vulnerable customers.
Industry leaders have voiced concern over the broader economic impact, including potential closures of pubs and local businesses facing rising overhead costs. The government has not announced any direct relief measures so far.
